The Bioscope is an independent cinema located in downtown Johannesburg that exhibits and promotes innovative and diverse media to broad audiences.

The cinema is located on the ground floor of Main Street Life. Firstly through Bioscope Screening Projects of topical, engaging and entertaining international cinema for the diverse audiences that exist in South Africa. We’ve quickly realized the currency in film curatorship, and the Bioscope has already been asked to come on board for festivals and specialized film projects in 2010. We have also become an important facility and venue for the film industry. A few months after opening, we hosted the 12 annual Encounters Documentary Film Festival. 2010 will also see The Bioscope hosting the 2010 Woman of The Sun Film Festival, The Tri Continental Film Festival, and Out In Africa.

The 68 seater cinema can be hired out for special events, private screenings, and presentations.
