16mm launches at The Bioscope

16mm is a new concept to have launched at The Bioscope, the independent cinema located in downtown Johannesburg. Bioscope founders Darryl Els and Russell Grant discovered an old cinema located close by called the Thari cinema. When there they got to know the owner Charles, and discovered his collection of old 16mm prints. charles is also in possession of a working 16mm project.

Why not show these films inside The Bioscope?

The Orange Hats in New York

Red Team Go is proud to be affiliated with The Orange Hats. red Team Go founder Russell Grant met with Ben Lundberg during his visit to South Africa last year. The project, originally concieved and tested during The Grahamstown Arts Festival, sounded exciting and different.

“How can we help?” Grant said. The result? Lundberg returned to New York whereby he now drives and runs the project in its entirety. Red Team Go has come on board to simply help wherever possible, starting with the registration, development, and hosting of www.theorangehats.com

The Frown Before the Sun Sets

Before the Sun Sets is one of the first online TV shows to have been made in Main Street Life, a unique creative building located on the east side of Johannesburg city. the series sees artists come up to the roof of Main Street Life, and perform one song live, as the sun sets over the city behind them. The series started with Gary Thomas, but only once you repeat it can you really start calling it a series. The show was developed for Main Street Life .TV , the online media channel set up by Red Team Go for the building.
This second video is one of the first appearances of The Frown, a group only recently formed here in South Africa. Font lady of The Frown, Eve Rakow was part of Love on Rollerskates, an early Red Team Go project, and has always remained somewhat involved in the Red Team Go network ever since.

Before the Sun Sets launches on Main Street Life .TV

Before the Sun Sets is one of the first TV shows to have been developed by Red Team Go inside Main Street Life. The series is a great example of how those living inside the building can produce and exhibit their work, a vision laid out by property development company Propertuity from the beginning. Before the Sun Sets sees musicians come up and perform on the roof of the building as the sun sets over the city behind them.

The first performer in the series is Cape Town based singer and songwriter Gary Thomas. Although now operating solo, Thomas first hit the scene as one half of acoustic duo Cabins in the Forrest. Gary took the time out of his busy Joburg tour to film this and we’re proud to see him be the first in the series.

It also acts as a great example of a much smaller Red Team Go project. as opposed to one with infrastructure, development, and man power, here’s one that requires a small crew, quick turn around, but at the same time quality product that can reach a wide audience.

So we’ve now reached about three weeks into the project, and already its lead to an overwhelming response. Units in the building are starting to sell, but most importantly, sell to the right people. The project was devised to first attract the creative set of Johannesburg and the rest of South Africa to come live in the city, but also get across the incredibly unique facilities inside the building.

A perfect example of how this was accomplished, was the now infamous Skype Tour of the building.

Jobusy Adventure in Little Addis

Here’s the first video in what the Jobusy project team hope to be a fruitful relationship with top notch production house Mustard. Believing in the cause, and seeing any excuse to go out do strange stuff, they’ve offered up their time, and their mad mad skillz (note the use of the letter Z). Here, the group missioned out to the known, but not so ventured Little Addis. Nostalgically named of Ethiopia’s capital, this district within Johannesburg’s CDB, is certainly a bubble that needed investigating. Little did we know the other anomalies we’d find on the way.

This short film is a great example of how Red Team Go can be best used in order to develop ideas and concepts, even if just for once off enjoyment. This short film, produced at the end of 2008 saw the collaboration between Russell Grant and João Orecchia blossom. Orecchia provided a soundtrack to the film that took it to another level.
